As the third week concludes, talented athletes begin to show their abilities.

The third week comes to a close and the athletes have begun to shake off the rust.  Sprinters have suggested that they are talented enough and deep enough to provide the Patriots with a solid base.   The shot and discus people have a nice blend of veterans and new athletes with talent.  The high jumpers have been working very hard to acquire the skills necessary to provide the team with adequate representation in an important area.   The weather has just become tolerable for vaulters to begin to work effectively.  This area is an unknown and could possibly be a factor later in the season.  Distance looks very solid at the longer levels, but is somewhat a mystery among the newbies and in the 400/800.  Those areas will have prospects, but it will likely take time for those prospects to fully develop. The numbers have settled out as they always do.  They are actually quite good.  Thursday afternoon, a spectator would have seen groups of athletes in clusters all through the stadium working with coaches.  It is a scene that will be repeated often during the coming weeks.
